The Insides Company is pleased to announce the publication of an updated systematic review on chyme reinfusion therapy, in Clinical Nutrition ESPEN:https://www.clinicalnutritionespen.com/article/S2405-4577(26)00496-1/fulltext.
The review, led by Dr Celia Keane, Dr Cameron Wells, Dr Sameer Bhat and Dr Chen Liu includes 23 studies that provide outcomes for 620 patients undergoing chyme reinfusion therapy. 80% of patients (8 studies) ceased parenteral nutrition following chyme reinfusion therapy, with significant reductions in a further 5 studies. There were improvements in weight or BMI in 11 studies, reduction in intestinal output in 7 studies, correction or improvement in liver function test derangement in 8 studies, and improved markers of enterocyte function in 4 studies. chyme reinfusion therapy was well tolerated with few major adverse events.
The Insides Company’s Chief Medical Officer and Colorectal Surgeon Professor Ian Bisset said "It is encouraging to see this that this substantially expanded systematic review provides further evidence of the important role that chyme reinfusion plays in improving outcomes for patients with this highly complex condition. Reduction in parenteral nutrition requirements, reduced liver dysfunction and reduced fluid losses in this condition are major advantages. The use of device-assisted chyme reinfusion therapy simplifies the process and improves usability and patient experience.”
